Joining Rotary

Interested in joining Rotary?
Ever wonder what is beyond Rotaract? How can you still enjoy the many benefits that you experience as a Rotaract member when you age out of the club? Or what if you just do not feel that Rotaract is the right fit for you anymore? Membership in Rotary, our sponsor organization, may be the answer for you. So, what is Rotary and how do you get involved?

What is Rotary and how is it different than Rotaract?
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and are sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true “partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary. Rotary International is an association of approximately 34,000 autonomous Rotary clubs around the world. Each club is made up of business, professional, and community leaders who are committed to serve communities locally and around the world.

Typically, Rotary members are more established in their careers and communities than Rotaractors, but there is no minimum age for joining a Rotary Club. One important distinction between Rotary and Rotaract , however, is that membership in Rotary is by invitation only. Ultimately, however, both Rotaract and Rotary are committed to their motto “Service above Self” and membership in either organization offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the community while developing leadership skills and expanding business and professional contacts.

How can I become a member of Rotary?
Membership in a Rotary Club requires available business or professional classification opportunities as well as an invitation and sponsorship by a member of the club. To be considered, a prospective member must:

  • Hold (or be retired from) a professional, proprietary, executive, managerial, or community position
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to service through personal involvement
  • Be able to meet the club’s weekly attendance or community project participation requirements
  • Live or work within the vicinity of the club or surrounding area.

What are the membership requirements for Rotary members?
Just like Rotaract members, Rotarians are required to pay dues, are expected to participate in all aspects of the club, especially serve. Rotarians are also encouraged to seek club leadership roles or serve on committees.
